Welcome to Post19

Who are we?

Post19 is a leading Life Skills and Support Centre for young adults with learning difficulties. We are based in Farnham and support young adults from throughout Surrey and Hampshire.

What we do

Post19 provides a wide range of social based programmes for young people with learning difficulties aged between 19 and 30. These include: Enterprise Skills; ICT; Creative Writing; Graphic Design; Photography and Art.

Our programmes are designed to be truly meaningful and to contribute towards the goal of increased independence. These activities are diverse - ranging from Boccia to Taekwondo; and craft to motorbike mechanics. We also offer a buddy service which is tailored to the specific requirements of the individual. This includes travel training, work experience, community skills and independent living skills.

Rob Power Vision Statement

Having worked as a special needs teacher for 20 years, I’ve witnessed, at first hand, the huge gap in effective support provision for young adults with a learning disability. Parents - who came to me after their young adults had left formal education - referred to it as ‘falling off a cliff’. I founded Post19 to make a real difference to the lives of young adults. Rather than having nowhere to go, no one to turn to or attending inappropriate day centre programmes, Post19 offers young adults real hope for the future. It is deeply gratifying to see the profound change we have made to youngsters’ lives.

Our Goals

Independence and inclusion are at the core of our mission to enhance the lives of those we work with. We understand that young people, with learning difficulties, take more time to mature. We are good problem solvers. We strive to understand young adults with complex needs, so we can truly unlock their potential.

We begin by building relationships and trust. We gain a thorough understanding of the individual’s needs before teaching / helping them to develop the skills and methods to cope within the community. We promote an active lifestyle to provide our young people with healthy, balanced living.

Post19 is person centred. Timetables and activities are individualised and flexible as far as possible. For instance, some of our young adults benefit from shorter sessions, which are gradually built-up over time. This leads to improved engagement and socialisation.
